Applied AI for business: FUNDAE-funded training and real cases

BY TECNOCIM INNOVA   PUBLISHED ON 23 MARCH 2026

FUNDAE has designated artificial intelligence a priority sector for 2026 (RD 1189/2025), which means courses on applied AI for business can be 100% funded through the FUNDAE-funded training credit that companies operating in Spain already hold. For a company that wants to adopt AI but does not know where to start, training the team is the first step — and it can be entirely free.

Why applied AI training and not generic courses?

The difference between a generic AI course and training in applied AI for business is the difference between studying driving theory and learning to drive. Applied training focuses on solving real business problems with AI tools the team can use the very next day.

What to look for in an applied AI course:

What to avoid:

According to ONTSI/INE figures (2024), only 21.1% of Spanish companies with more than 10 employees use artificial intelligence, and the lack of specialist knowledge is the main barrier cited by 71% of European companies considering AI. Training applied to the business answers that barrier directly.

Real cases of applied AI by sector

Training should target the use cases with the greatest impact in each sector. These are the most sought after in 2026:

Industry and manufacturing

Services and retail

Finance and administration

Agrifood sector

How to fund AI training at 100%

There are several routes that make AI training cost your company nothing directly:

1. FUNDAE-funded training (zero cost)

Every company with employees under the Spanish general Social Security scheme holds an annual credit. In 2026, AI is a priority sector funded at 100%. The minimum credit is €420 a year, even for micro-businesses.

The process: choose a course from an approved provider → notify FUNDAE 7 calendar days in advance (new under RD 1189/2025; it used to be 2 days) → deliver the training in person, online or blended → report the costs in the FUNDAE application → offset it on the Social Security contribution return under code 763. Any credit not used before 31 December is lost.

2. Kit Consulting (grant-funded AI consultancy)

SegmentEmployeesMaximum grant
A10-49€12,000
B50-99€18,000
C100-249€24,000

It covers identifying AI opportunities, optimising your data and developing use cases adapted to the business.

3. Cupons ACCIÓ Industria 4.0 (Catalonia)

Up to €8,000 for a digital transformation assessment, which includes evaluating AI opportunities, and up to €20,000 to deploy Industry 4.0 technologies.

4. Kit Digital

The Kit Digital catalogue includes AI tools for the first time (up to €29,000 for medium-sized companies), which lets you fund both the tool and the training that goes with it (see the Kit Digital AI grants for 2026 for SMEs).

How to design an AI training plan for your company

An effective training plan follows this structure:

  1. Assessment: identify the processes with the greatest potential for AI automation
  2. Mapping by profile: define what each group needs to learn (management, operations, technical staff)
  3. Course selection: choose training applied to your sector and level, from a provider eligible for FUNDAE funding
  4. Funding: combine FUNDAE (training) + Kit Consulting (consultancy) + Cupons ACCIÓ (assessment + rollout)
  5. Implementation: start with quick wins — simple automations that show value fast
  6. Measurement: KPIs before and after (time saved, errors avoided, productivity)

Recommended training by profile:

ProfileDurationKey content
Management8-16hAI strategy, ROI, change management
Operational team16-40hGenerative AI tools, no-code automation
Technical team40-80hApplied machine learning, APIs, systems integration

If your company runs R&D projects linked to AI, the cost of training research staff can qualify for tax deductions under article 35 LIS and for Social Security contribution reductions for research staff (40-50% of the contribution).

Common mistakes in corporate AI training:

In Catalonia, a company can put together a full itinerary: an ACCIÓ voucher to identify AI opportunities → FUNDAE-funded training to upskill the team → Kit Consulting to develop the use case → CDTI funding if the project scales up to R&D. All of it with public grants that can cover more than 80% of the total cost.
