Frequently asked questions about funding for women founders
The main ones are: ENISA Digital Women Founders (participating loans from €25,000 to €1,500,000); microloans from the Spanish Women's Institute through MicroBank (up to €30,000 with no guarantor, governed by BOE-A-2026-6220); NEOTEC, with €5M ring-fenced for women-led startups (up to €250,000 non-repayable); the reduced flat rate for the self-employed (€80/month for 12 months); and the PAEM programme run by the Spanish Chambers of Commerce, which provides free advice.
No. The Spanish Women's Institute microloans issued through MicroBank require no guarantor. You do have to submit a business plan with a favourable appraisal. The maximum amount is €30,000 under the standard product, or €50,000 for innovation projects. The interest rate is fixed at 6.90%.
Yes. In 2026 there is €5M ring-fenced for women-led startups within NEOTEC. The company must have been trading for between 6 months and 3 years, with a project budget of between €175,000 and €750,000. The application window runs from 14 April to 14 May 2026. The grant covers up to 70% (€250,000), or 85% (€325,000) if the company employs someone with a doctorate.
ENISA provides participating loans from €25,000 to €1,500,000 for SMEs with women in leadership positions, on favourable repayment terms. The Spanish Women's Institute microloans, issued through MicroBank, are small loans of up to €30,000–50,000 at a fixed rate of 6.90%, designed for self-employed women and micro-enterprises with no credit history and no guarantor.
No. The flat rate has to be requested when you register with the Spanish self-employed scheme (RETA). It sets the monthly contribution at €80 for 12 months. It can be extended for a further 12 months if net earnings stay below the statutory minimum wage (SMI). For victims of gender-based violence, the period runs to 24 months.
Yes, several schemes can be combined as long as they do not fund the same item. For example: the flat rate plus a microloan, or NEOTEC plus ENISA for separate projects. The PAEM programme works as a gateway to microloans. The de minimis ceiling is €300,000 over 3 tax years.
The Spanish Women's Institute microloans are applied for through MicroBank. The process involves drawing up a business plan, obtaining a favourable appraisal from a partner body (such as the Spanish Chambers of Commerce or PAEM), and filing the application directly at a MicroBank or CaixaBank branch. Decisions are quick, usually within 2–3 weeks. Tecnocim helps you with the business plan and the paperwork.
The requirements vary by programme. ENISA Digital Women Founders calls for an incorporated SME with at least one woman on the management team and a digital business model. For MicroBank microloans it is enough to be a woman founder without access to conventional bank funding. NEOTEC requires a technology-based startup that has been trading for between 6 months and 3 years. The self-employed flat rate simply requires registering with RETA for the first time.
Yes. The Spanish Women's Institute microloans (up to €50,000 with no guarantor), ENISA Digital Women Founders (up to €1.5M) and the ICO loans for companies and founders are the main credit options for women founders in 2026. Several regions, including Catalonia, Andalusia and Madrid, also run their own funding lines on favourable terms.
